GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for graduation, students must meet the following requirements: Students enrolled in the Degree programs in Photography and Graphic Design / Commercial Art must satisfactorily complete 60 credit hours of study. These programs require twenty-one months (21) of study to complete.
CREDIT EXPLANATION /ACADEMIC YEAR - SEMESTER
The total course of instruction for one academic year is
30 semester credit hours (32 weeks per academic year). Each semester offers 15 credit hours. Clock hours of instruction are 24 hours per week, with 16 weeks per semester, (4 months) for a total of 384 clock hours per semester and 1536 clock hours in a two-year
Degree program. Credit explanation: One credit hour for each fifteen
(15) clock hours of classroom lecture contact; One credit for each thirty (30) clock hours of laboratory work. A clock hour is defined as fifty (50) minutes. A full-time student is defined as one who has enrolled in courses totaling 12 or more credits.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS
To maintain satisfactory progress at Antonelli Institute
a student must both attain specified grade averages and successfully complete courses at a required minimum pace. If a student does not meet these requirements as specified, he/she will be placed on probation for a period of one semester, during which the student may receive financial aid. If he/she fails to improve to the specified minimums at the end of the next semester, the student will be terminated. Progress will be measured each semester. Students withdrawing from any course after its starting date must advise the school in writing. Transcripts will reflect a WP (withdraw passing) or a WF (withdraw failing) grade. Students may not repeat any course more than once. Grades from a repeated course replace the original failing grade.
REQUIRED COMPLETION RATE
A student must be progressing toward program completion within a specified time frame. This is defined as successfully completing at least two-thirds of all credit hours attempted. Students not meeting the required completion rate will be placed on probation (see Satisfactory Progress). This requires that full-time degree students complete the program (normally two years) in
a maximum of three years. For financial aid consideration, successful academic progress and advancement to the next grade level is defined as successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester credits for every two semesters of financial aid received.
MAKE-UP WORK
Students who fail to meet assigned deadlines or miss scheduled examinations due to emergencies must document the situation to their instructors and the Director of Education. The student will be informed as to make-up procedures and time allowed to submit completed work. Students who fail to earn required credits for a given academic year may schedule a make-up class in addition to their regular class schedule. Students may not receive financial aid for repeated courses.
ATTENDANCE
There is a direct relationship between attendance and performance at Antonelli Institute. It is not the kind of school where a student can read a book or borrow someone’s notes and compensate for time lost in the studio. When a student enters class, they have an obligation to the instructor and to fellow students to attend and participate. A student with excessive absences will be considered deficient and their grade will reflect that deficiency. It is recognized that a student may be absent from class due to illness or a family emergency. However, except for serious medical problems, the student should have minimal absenteeism. GRADING SYSTEM
MINIMUM GRADE LEVELS
A student must achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in accordance with the following chart. A CGPA below the specified average will place the student on probation as described above.
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Semester Minimum CGPA must be at the completion of the semester 1 = 1.25
2 = 1.50
3 = 1.75
4 = 2.00 Part-time students enrolled in a Degree Program must maintain the same grade levels as appropriate to their point in the program.
GRADES
Grades are issued at the end of each semester according to the following system: A – Excellent 4 points
B+ 3.5 points
B - Above Average 3 points
C+ 2.5 points
C - Average 2 points
D+ 1.5 points
F – Failing 0 points WP – Withdraw Passing no record
WF – Withdraw Failing 0 points
I – Incomplete
T – Prior or Transfer Credit Given
FAIL (F) If a course is failed, the course must be repeated. No credit is accrued with a grade of F. When a student repeats a course, both grades will be recorded on the permanent record, but only the second will be used to compute the cumulative average.
WITHDRAW PASSING (WP)
A “WP” grade is assigned to a student who withdraws prior to the midpoint of the semester. The “WP” does not affect the cumulative grade point average but does affect the maximum time frame for completion of the program. If the student withdraws after the midpoint of the semester, the student receives a “WF” (withdraw failing) grade for the course.
WITHDRAW FAILING (WF)
This grade indicates the student has withdrawn from the course with a failing grade in the class. The grade of WF is recorded on the permanent record and is equivalent to a failure.
INCOMPLETE (I)
An “I” grade may be assigned to a student at the end of a semester providing the student is passing the course and has completed a substantial portion of the coursework. The incomplete work must be completed within 30 days after the end of the semester. If the work is not assigned a grade by the end of 30 days, the “I” grade will be changed to an “F”.
REPEATING
A student may repeat a course in which the original grade was a “D” or “F”. The new grade is averaged into the cumulative grade point average. A repeat may also affect the maximum time frame in which the student has to complete the program of study.
NOTICE TO PARENT(S) OR GUARDIAN(S)
The Institute will attempt to notify parent(s) or guardian(s) when a dependent student is placed on probation or termination.
ACADEMIC APPEALS
The Institute provides an Academic Appeals Committee consisting of the School President and Director of Education and one other member of the school administration. This committee will provide an appeals process for students who wish to question their dismissal. The Committee will consider requests for re-admittance. All appeals and requests must be made in writing to the committee.
STUDENT CONDUCT
Antonelli Institute students are generally individuals who are seeking to prepare themselves for careers in the visual arts. It is expected that all students will conduct themselves in the same manner expected of them in a future employment situation. Antonelli Institute reserves the right to suspend or terminate any student whose conduct is detrimental to the well-being of faculty, fellow students and Institute staff; disruptive to the administrative operation of the Institute, or result in damage to the school facility and/or its equipment. Students residing in school dorms are subject to the above stated policy as well as the rules and regulations of the dormitory management.

If the school decides to amend the record as requested by the student, the school will notify the student of the decision and advise the student of his or her right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is: Family Policy Compliance Office, U.S. Department of Education 400 Maryland Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. 20202-4605
