Passionate Instructors.

The faculty at Antonelli Institute are part of what really sets our programs apart. Not only are our faculty members experienced professionals, but they are also passionate artists and teachers. Their enthusiasm for teaching coupled with their refined talent gives our students an edge when it comes to navigating a career in the visual arts. 

The Photography faculty includes members of National Press Photographers Association, American Society of Media Photographers, Professional Photographers of America - Certified Professional Photographer Degree and Master of Photography, Guild of Professional Photographers of the Delaware Valley, Society for Photographic Education, and the Airborne Law Enforcement Association. 

The Graphic Design faculty includes illustrators and graphic designers who have worked on accounts including Philadelphia Sunday Inquirer Magazine, The Franklin Institute, Pep Boys,Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and numerous greeting card companies. Memberships include the Philly Ad Club, American Institute of Graphic Artists, Philadelphia Cartoonists Society, World’s Fair Artist Collective, and The Philadelphia Sketch Club.

 

Ronald Cala, II

Ronald Cala has been the Principal Designer and Illustrator for Calagraphic Design since 2004.Some of his freelance clients include: Businessweek, Forbes Executive Woman, Fortune Magazine, Leo Burnett Hong Kong, London Times, Nordstrom, New York Times, Washington Post, WHYY, and Wired Magazine. His experience includes positions as Art Director, Creative Director, Designer, Illustrator, Flash Coder, and Web Designer.

He frequently participates in juried exhibitions in the United States (Pennsylvania, Maryland, Colorado, and New York) and internationally (Poland, Iran, China, Bulgaria, Mexico, and Italy). He is the recipient of many honors and awards such as Gold Awards from Create, Creative Quarterly, Graphis, One Club, Promax Broadcast Design Awards and Certificates of Excellence from ADI, AIGA, and Type Directors Club of New York.

He currently teaches at The College of New Jersey and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Arts. He has taught classes at Moore College of Art and Design, Rowan University, Temple University's School of Media and Communications and Tyler School of Art, and West Chester University.

Robert Goldberg

Master of Journalism, Temple University

BA, Northwestern University

Robert Goldberg is a web developer and project manager with extensive front-end design experience. He has 20 years of experience producing scientific, technical, and general-audience publications (web, multimedia, and print) for a wide variety of clients and industries, such as equipment manufacturers, major consulting companies, public relations firms, and government agencies. Target audiences range from Ph.D. scientists to the lay public. He most recently worked in web content and communications at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Drexel University.

He has also been an adjunct instructor at DeSales University, Penn State Abington’s Continuing Education Division, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia University, and University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. 

 

 

Vladimir Hartman

Vladimir Hartman

B.A., School of Photography and Graphic Arts, Prague

Vladimir Hartman came to the United States in 1984 from Prague, Czech Republic, where he had graduated from the School of Graphic Arts and Photography. He then studied photography at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. 

For the past 26 years, he has worked as a freelance photographer, specializing in fine art. Clients include: Cetra Language Solutions, Inc., Cerene Fine Linens, LLC, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences, and Guardian Environmental Services Company, Inc. He has participated in various juried exhibits at the Perkins Art Center, Abington Art Center, and Artforms Gallery. He had a solo exhibit at the SPSG Gallery in the Czech Republic in 2006 and recently exhibited work at the Rocket Cat Café in Philadelphia. 

 


 

Shawn Hileman

BFA, Savannah College of Art and Design

Shawn Hileman owns Masthead Print Studio located in Philadelphia and works as a Freelance Art Director, Graphic Design, and Illustrator. Some of his clients include: Citibank, Digitas Health, J. Crew, Philadelphia Magazine, University of Pennsylvania, and Urban Outfitters. His experience has included leading a team of designers and programmers to create printed and online pieces for Fortune 100 companies and doing page layouts and creating client ads for a small local Philadelphia newspaper.

Shawn has been a member of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) since 2015 and is currently the Programming Director for the organization. He also teaches Illustration at the University of the Arts and Graphic Design at Moore College of Art.

 

 

Mimi Janosy

Mimi Janosy

A.S.T., Antonelli Institute, Nominated National Business Woman of the Year in 1996; Cover Photographer for Business Philadelphia Magazine 1992-1996

A graduate of Antonelli Institute, Mimi Janosy has been a professional photographer and photographic educator for 29 years. Her professional experience and commitment to her work is apparent through her dynamic style of instruction. She has taught at the Art Institute, University of the Arts, and Main Line Art Center. 

Clients have included:  NBC 10, Greater Philadelphia Film Office, Business Philadelphia, Wine Spectator, Forbes, Food Arts and Marketwatch Magazines. Mimi is co-owner of Studio Three Photography in Philadelphia. 

 


 

Bill Kelly

MFA, Goddard College 

AST, Art Institute of Philadelphia

A photographer, artist, and educator, Bill Kelly has called Philadelphia home for over a decade.  He has taught at the Art Institute of Philadelphia as well as a number of cultural institutions including Penn State’s continuing education department, the Woodmere Museum, and the Abington Art Center where he served as Department Head.  

He maintains a freelance photography business providing digital production services as well as event coverage and documentation for craftsmen, artists, and other local businesses.  He has participated in numerous local exhibits, including a commission with the Philadelphia Water Department as part of the Green Cities, Clean Water program. 

 

  

Kyle Margiotta

Kyle Margiotta

BFA University of the Arts

Kyle Margiotta has been working in the arts as an illustrator, a fine artist, and instructor for the past decade. His hyper realistic paintings and drawings have been displayed in galleries in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York. Such galleries include: Society of Illustrators and Republica Bolizariana de Venezuela located in New York, NY; The Vineland Art Alliance in Vineland NJ; and The Philadelphia Sketch Club, The Artists’ House, Nicolas Berg Gallery, Phantom Hand located in Philadelphia, PA; SSP Gallery of the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artist, PA; and Community Arts Center, Wallingford, PA.

His keen eye for light and color, along with his strength in drawing the human figure, has provided him with many commissions, both public and private. Notable commissions have come from Cumberland County Improvement Authority at Millville, NJ; Vineland Public Library located in Vineland, NJ; University of the Arts School of Dance; and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His career in illustration also includes freelance work in book covers, magazines, poster art, and greeting cards.

 

Tahara Muhammad

MBA, Arcadia University

BS, Gwynedd-Mercy University

Tahara Muhammad has over 20 years of experience in the business world as a Financial Service Specialist, Insurance and Investment Agent, and Accounting Representative. She is currently a Trainer/Business Management Instructor for JLMCI Consulting Inc. In this capacity she works with groups and teams in multiple locations in both contentious and non-contentious work environments as a facilitator, instructor, subject matter expert, consultant, and business coach.

She is also an Adjunct Business Instructor at Gwynedd Mercy University where she has taught Business Management, Business Ethics, Business Theory and Marketing Management, and Economics 101.

Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation as the person who gets the job done. She accomplishes this by implementing careful planning, using her organizational skills, and establishing priorities for all daily activities – all important skills that she imparts to her students so that they will be successful in their chosen career paths. Ms. Muhammad brings her business and educational experience to Antonelli Institute’s Business classes.
 

Todd Murray

A 1983 graduate of Antonelli Institute, Todd Murray has worked as a commercial photographer for over 25 years, owning and operating studios in Philadelphia and New York. He has been a member of the Antonelli faculty since 1992.

Clients have included: WPVI (Action News) Channel 6, HBO, The University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, Mann Music Center, Vanguard, Sallye Cosmetics (China), PCPM (Philadelphia College of Podiatric Medicine), Philadelphia Art Museum, Kimmel Center, Winterthur Museum, Somnia Furniture; Blue Cross/Blue Shield (PA, NJ, MA, IL), Restaurant Associates, New York Credit, Independence Brewing Company, Christina Pirello “Christina Cooks” (PBS), Rittenhouse Plastic Surgery, Boathouse, Firas Yousif Originals, Harry Stuart-Glass, John J. Christina Notarfrancesco

MA, Professional Communications, LaSalle University

Christina Notarfrancesco has a diverse background in both the manufacturing and healthcare industries.  Her former positions include Human Resource Manager, Northeast Regional Sales Manager, Account Specialist, and Art Coordinator.  During her career, Christina has serviced various clients such as: Procter and Gamble,  L’Oreal, Johnson & Johnson, Sally Hansen / Coty Int. (Formerly Del Laboratories), Colgate, The Body Shop, Sephora, American Distilling, R.J. Reynolds,  and Shiesado Cosmetics.   
 
Christina is currently a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the National Association for Professional Woman (NAPW) and the Pennsylvania Poetry Society.  She serves as a guest lecturer for the University of Delaware’s School of Nursing, where she teaches seminars on conflict management, leadership skills, team building, social media, and personal marketing.  Christina continues to work as a consultant for small businesses.  

With more than 16 years of professional experience, Christina has expertise in areas including account management, project management, sales and marketing, employee communications, training and development, hiring, staffing and recruiting.  
 
While working for Meadwestvaco’s Specialty Packaging Division, Christina served on a team of four women that was named Procter and Gamble’s 2007 Supplier of the Year. 

Christina believes in lifelong learning.  She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in educational leadership.  Her scholarly research interests center on bridging the generational gap between post-secondary graduates and the workforce.  
 

Mike Pancoast

A.S.T., Photography, Antonelli Institute 

Mike has been a commercial photographer for over 20 years.  His clients have included Campbell Soup, Chilton Book Company, CRC Automotive Products, Einstein Healthcare Network, International Envelope, Mattel Toys, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. 

Prior to starting his own studio, he was Corporate Photographic Consultant for General Accident Insurance.  He also served as President and Founding partner of Northstar Photoworks, whose clients included DuPont, Astra Merck, Delmarva Power, Four Season Hotel, Silo, and Early Childhood Resource. Mike’s photos are on loan to Phase One Digital Products.

 


 

Christian "Patch" Patchell

BFA, University of the Arts

Patch is a freelance illustrator, cartoonist, and designer whose art has appeared on everything from comic books to greeting cards. Clients have included the Philadelphia Sunday Inquirer Magazine, The Franklin Institute, Rohm & Haas, Sourpuss clothing, and numerous greeting card companies.  He worked for Applehead Factory as the Assistant Art Director and for Burgoyne Greeting Cards Inc. as the Creative Director/Designer. He authored “I Put the Can in Cancer: A Journey through Pictures,” a visual journey through his life-changing battle with cancer. 

 

He has exhibited his art at the Nichols Berg Gallery in Chestnut Hill, PA. He is a member of the Philly Ad Club, the Philadelphia Cartoonists Society, and the World’s Fair Artist Collective.

 

Andrew Simcox

A.S.T., Photography, Antonelli Institute

A graduate of Antonelli Institute, Drew Simcox went on to a successful career in photojournalism.  Assignments and affiliations included: Senior Photojournalist, Photo Educator and Aerial Specialist for Carl Wolf Studios; Columbia Scholastic Press Association, Julian Krinsky Camps and Programs, Stewart Film and Video and Simcox Photography.  His clients have included the New York Daily News, the Archdioceses of Philadelphia, BASF, Home Fields, Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia Water Works, Philadelphia Historical Commission, as well as various universities including Vanderbilt, Villanova, Penn State, Syracuse and Cornell.  

He has served as a beta-tester for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Imagenomic Noiseware, Real Grain and Portraiture, Livebooks.edu. Vimeo-Educational Partnership, Athentech  Perfectly Clear, and Synergy Communications.  

He has as done community service projects for MS Society, Lansdowne Theater, Freedom Playground, Morris Arboretum, Eastern State Penitentiary, and Fort Mifflin. He was the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators 2004 Instructor of the Year.    

He is now the Lead Instructor and Career Services Director for Antonelli Institute Photography Program and the Advisor for the Antonelli Chapter National Press Photographers Association.

He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, National Professional Press Photographers Association, Airborne Law Enforcement Association, Evidence Photographers International Council, Photojournalism Lightstalkers, Photo Imaging Education, Photographic Society of Philadelphia, Student Photographic Society Faculty member, Society for Photographic Education, and Philly Ad Club.

Janice Simmons

BS and BA, Bowling Green State University

Jann Simmons has over 13 years of experience in secondary and higher education specific to English Language Arts, Creative Writing, Journalism, Photography, and Graphic Arts. She worked as a Secondary English Teacher at Summerfield High School in Michigan. When she moved to this area in 2013, she began teaching English at Camden County College. Since 1995, she has owned and operated her own photography business.

Jann constantly challenges her students. She sets the bar high and continues to raise it but she allows time and space for her students to grasp difficult concepts and improve their skills.

She is currently working towards her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Rutgers University. 

 

 

Joseph Wilk

BS, Rider University 

Joe Wilk started his professional career after college working for Procter and Gamble. He retired from the corporate headquarters of Subaru of America. His proficiencies lie in inventory management, purchasing, distribution, manufacturing, project management, supply chain management, and forecasting. 

When he retired from the corporate world, he began teaching.  He has taught at Mercer County Community College, Cumberland County Community College, and Gloucester County Community College. He has been teaching at Antonelli Institute since 2003.

 

 

 

 

 

Robert Wood

B.A. West Chester University; Master of Photography and Certified Professional Photographer, Professional Photographers of America

Robert Wood has been a professional photographer for more than 30 years. As the owner of Robert Wood Photography, he specializes in children, family, glamour and wedding photography.

In his professional career Robert has won more than 50 awards, including two Kodak Gallery Awards and the Burrell Trophy for Outstanding Bridal Portrait.  Robert earned his Master of Photography and Certified Professional Photographer degrees from the Professional Photographers of America. In addition to his numerous awards, Robert has had two photographs published in the PPA General Collection books. Robert has also had numerous articles published in PPA Magazine.

Robert has lectured to various professional organizations and has also judged local print competitions. Robert has been an instructor at Antonelli Institute since 2001.   

 

Edward Zawora

Ed Zawora has over ten years experience as a professional graphic and web designer, and he continues to work as a freelance web and print designer. He has offered creative solutions for many major accounts including A. Duie Pyle, BJs Wholesale Club, Exide Technologies, K-Mart, Mainline Health Systems, NAPA Auto Parts, PennDOT, Penske Automotive Parts, Pep Boys, Pittsburgh Steelers, PPG Industries, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Delaware Department of Labor, PPG Industries, Sears, and Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort. He worked for Exide Corporation, Vance, Wright, Adams and Associates, and Dean Design Group.

When he worked with Exide, they sponsored a NASCAR race so he got to go to the race, visit the pit, meet the drivers, and go into the winner’s circle. He also is the Lead Instructor and Career Services Director for Antonelli's Graphic Design Program. He is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Artists, Philly Ad Club, Philadelphia Museum of Art, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Anthropology and Archeology.  He is also the recipient of the 2013 PAPSA Outstanding Instructor of the Year and the 2013 ACCSC Commitment to Education Award.
